Therapy Intensives
Focused, extended sessions to help you go deeper—at your pace.
Sometimes the weekly rhythm of therapy isn’t enough. Whether you’re feeling stuck, short on time, or ready to dive deeper into meaningful work, therapy intensives offer a powerful alternative to traditional weekly sessions. These extended sessions give you more time and space to focus on specific goals, process experiences in depth, and make progress without interruption.
At Tella Psychology, we offer personalized therapy intensives for clients who want to deepen their healing in a concentrated format. These sessions are designed to meet you where you are—whether you're starting therapy for the first time or returning to focus on something specific.
What is a therapy intensive?
A therapy intensive is a longer, structured session (usually 1.5 hours to 3 hours) that allows you to explore targeted issues in greater depth. These sessions may take place as a one-time consultation, a short series over a few weeks, or part of an ongoing treatment plan. Intensives can be helpful for both new and returning clients. You might consider an intensive if:
You’re short on time but want meaningful support
You’ve done therapy before and want to go deeper
You’re feeling stuck or overwhelmed by a specific issue
You’re interested in IFS or EMDR and want to try it in a focused format
Not sure if it’s the right fit? We’re happy to talk it through with you.
What approaches do you use?
Therapy intensives are customized to your needs and goals. Depending on what you’re working on, we may use:
Internal Family Systems (IFS): To explore and unblend parts of you that are in conflict
EMDR Therapy: To reprocess distressing memories or stuck beliefs
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT): For structured skill-building or behavior change
Somatic or mindfulness-based strategies: To support nervous system regulation
Psychoeducation and integration: To help you understand and apply the insights that emerge
What to expect
Before we schedule an intensive, we’ll start with a consultation to learn more about what you’re hoping to work on and determine if this format is a good fit. If we decide to move forward, we’ll create a personalized plan that may include:
90–180 minute sessions (in-person or online)
Optional pre- and post-session check-ins
Structured time for reflection and grounding
Recommendations for follow-up support or ongoing therapy
Therapy intensives are not a quick fix—but they can be a powerful catalyst for healing, insight, and change.
Who Can Benefit from Intensives?
-
Trauma work often requires uninterrupted time and a slower pace to feel safe and effective. In an intensive, we can stay with the work long enough to fully process a memory or belief without needing to stop mid-way. EMDR and IFS are especially well-suited to this format, allowing for deeper healing in a single session.
-
If you’re avoiding certain places, situations, or activities because of fear, you’re not alone. Phobias can be disruptive and exhausting—but they’re also treatable. In a therapy intensive, we create a focused space to understand what’s driving the fear and begin gently reprocess it.
With more time than a weekly session allows, we can complete multiple exposure exercises and use EMDR and/or IFS to reprocess the fear response. This extended format helps you build confidence and regain freedom in your daily life more efficiently than traditional therapy.
-
Living with OCD can feel like being stuck in loops of intrusive thoughts, rituals, or mental checking. You might know your thoughts aren’t “rational,” but they still feel urgent or impossible to ignore. While Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) is the gold-standard treatment for OCD, not all clients tolerate ERP well at first—especially those with trauma histories, perfectionist parts, or high emotional sensitivity.
An intensive for OCD can begin by introducing parts work to help you better understand the parts of you that demand control, soften inner critics or hopelessness, and reduce shame. This early work can increase your readiness for CBT or ERP by helping your internal system feel safer and more supported.
From there, we may move into exposure exercises, slowly facing your fears in a way that feels collaborative and manageable. Some clients continue ERP with us, while others return to their regular therapist to continue the work with a new foundation of insight and support.
-
Big changes can activate uncertainty, grief, or fear. Intensives provide space to explore what’s being stirred up—old patterns, conflicting parts, or limiting beliefs—so you can move through the transition with more clarity, grounding, and self-trust. Whether you're navigating a health diagnosis, career shift, or relationship change, we’ll help you find your footing.
-
If you're already in therapy but feel like you're spinning your wheels, an intensive can help unblock deeper work and move on from the concern of the week. You might use the time to focus on a particular theme, reprocess something that hasn’t been fully resolved, or do a deeper round of IFS or EMDR to reignite momentum.
-
Some clients begin therapy with one clear concern they want to address. A therapy intensive offers a focused, intentional way to dive in. This can be a meaningful first step—either as a stand-alone session or as a way to begin ongoing therapy with more insight and direction.

FAQs about Therapy Intensives
Do I need to be in ongoing therapy to do an intensive?
No. Some clients do intensives as a stand-alone experience. Others use them as a bridge between therapists or as a way to jumpstart a new phase of healing. We’ll discuss your goals in our consultation and make a plan that feels right for you.
Can I do an intensive if I already have a therapist?
Yes. Many clients come for an intensive while continuing regular therapy with another provider. We’re happy to coordinate with your therapist (with your permission) to ensure continuity and support.
Can intensives be done online?
Yes. We offer both in-person and telehealth intensives. If meeting online, we’ll use secure platforms and creative tools (like shared visual exercises or digital sand tray) to make the experience just as impactful as in person.
What should I expect after the session?
You may feel reflective, tired, or emotionally stirred up after deep work—which is normal. We’ll talk about how to care for yourself afterward, and you’ll receive recommendations for integration and follow-up support as needed.
How much do intensives cost?
The cost of a 90-minute intensive is $450, and a 3-hour session is $900. Because we’re an out-of-network provider, we can provide you with a superbill to submit to your insurance for possible reimbursement. However, most insurance plans will only reimburse for up to 60 minutes of therapy per day. If you’d like help estimating your potential reimbursement, we’re happy to walk you through that process.
How many sessions will I need?
Some people do one intensive session to jumpstart progress. Others complete a short series over a few weeks. We’ll talk through options in your consultation and design a plan that works for you.
